About

Each year the Oroville Salmon Festival celebrates the return of the salmon to the Feather River. Join the celebration by viewing the salmon run at the fish hatchery, running in the 3k Salmon Dash, wandering through the street fair, and tasting salmon dishes prepared in various styles. This family-friendly event always takes place on the fourth Saturday in September. This year it will be held on September 22.

Most activities take place at the following 3 locations.

Fish Hatchery

5 Table Mountain Blvd • 7am to 3pm • FREE TOURS

See the salmon run first-hand from the observation platform and the windows into the water. Free Guided Tours every half hour.

Downtown Street Fair

Historic Downtown Oroville • 10am to 3pm • FREE ENTRY

Take a stroll through historic Downtown Oroville and enjoy music, food, crafts, and fun! Organized by the Oroville Downtown Business Association.

Salmon Court

On the Downtown Levee • 10am to 4pm • FREE ENTRY

Visit Salmon Court and enjoy fresh barbecued and smoked salmon, cartoonist Jon Shultz, the Oroville Hospital Health Fair, kids art activities, and more.

Friday, September 21

Feather River Nature Center Dinner

6:00 pm

This annual dinner kicks off Salmon Festival on Friday and is held on the levee at Salmon Court, overlooking the Feather River. For dinner, guests have the option of either grilled Alaskan salmon or tri-tip, and beer and wine are available for purchase. This family-friendly event is held under a large tent with live music by The Crawlers and dancing. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce and at Chico Paper Company.

Adults $25 | Children (under twelve) $12

Proceeds from the dinner support both the Feather River Nature Center and the Salmon Festival.

Saturday, September 22

 

Visit the Oroville Fish Hatchery

7:00 am to 3:00 pm – Fish Hatchery Tours

Take a tour of the Feather River Fish Hatchery to see first-hand the run of the salmon from the ocean to their native rivers. Outside at the fish barrier dam, watch salmon swim up the fish ladder from the observation platform and the windows into the water. Inside the main hatchery, watch spawning operations through an observation window. Guided tours begin every half hour starting at 9:00 am. 7:00 am to 10:30 am – Pancake breakfast at the Fish Hatchery

Adults: Pancakes, Eggs, Juice, and Coffee – $7 or Pancakes, Juice, and Coffee – $5
Children: Pancakes & Juice $3.50
Presale tickets available at the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce.

11:00 am to 3:00 pm – Lunch at the Fish Hatchery. Enjoy tri-tip, hot dogs, tacos, nachos, and SUPER nachos.

 

Historic Downtown Street Fair

10:00 am to 3:00 pm – Downtown Street Fair and BCOE Children’s Fair.

Salmon Court

10:00 am to 4:00 pm – On the levee at Arline Rhine Drive, behind the Municipal Auditorium.

Watch free entertainment at the Salmon Court on the levee overlooking the Feather River. To open the celebrations, the Konkow Valley Maidu perform a traditional first salmon ceremony. Then, the entertainment line-up includes dance by Feather River Recreation & Parks District, Hip-Hop Dance by the African-American Family & Cultural Center, Catch It Quick Juggling Company with Michael Taylor, and Belly Dancing with the Shalamar Dance Company. Live music performances include the Hill Crest Ave. Band, Feather River Gypsies, and the Surf Noir Kings.

The Salmon Grilling Contest, put on by the Native Sons of the Golden West, lets you sample Salmon grilled in many different ways. Other Salmon dishes are also available for you to enjoy at the Food Court.

 

Oroville Hospital Health Fair

Be an active participant in your health! Receive free flu shots, health screenings and health education at Oroville Hospital’s Salmon Festival Health Fair. Prepare for flu season and ward off illness by getting your flu vaccination early.

 

 

Oroville Hospital 3k Salmon Color Dash

Register today for Oroville Hospital’s 3K Salmon Color Dash Walk/Run. This event is the perfect blend of exercise and fun, with a huge dose of color! And this year, we’re bringing the ’80s back to Oroville. Wear your best ’80s workout gear to be entered in our Fitbit raffle! This totally rad event is perfect for the whole family and will be a fun-filled day you will all remember.

8:30 am – Registration & Check-In
9:30 am – Color Dash Begins at the Oroville Centennial Plaza

Adults $25 | Kids 12 and Under $15

Directions, Parking, & Finding that perfect spot

Parking & Shuttle Service

Many streets and areas downtown will be closed off to vehicle traffic. There will be two convenient parking locations with free shuttle service:

  • River Bend Park (view map) From Hwy 70, exit onto Montgomery Street and head west approximately 350 yards towards the Feather River. As you enter the park, there is a large archway that reads “Feather River – Catch the Dream”
  • Butte County Offices at 78 Table Mountain Blvd. (view map) From From Hwy 70, exit onto Grand Ave and head east approximately 1.5 miles towards Table Mountain Blvd. As you arrive at the offices, there is a 7-11 at the corner of the parking lot.

Free shuttle service will run in a continuous loop. At River Bend Park, shuttle service begins at 10:00 am. At the Butte County Offices, shuttle service begins at 9:30 am. The last shuttle will run at 4:00 pm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do I have to buy tickets?
The Salmon Festival is a free event open to the general public. Admission to the Downtown Street Fair and Salmon Court on the Levee is free. Guided Tours at the Fish Hatchery are also free. Please refer to the Official Schedule for information about individual activities.
Q. What about parking?
There are two convenient parking locations:

Once you have parked, take the free shuttle to the event in historic downtown Oroville.

There will be restrooms and ATMs conveniently located throughout the event.
Q. When will the fish ladder gates open?
The fish ladder gates at the Fish Hatchery open in mid-September, just before the Salmon Festival.
