LAKE OROVILLE VISITOR CENTER

Learn what it took to build the Nation’s tallest dam and California’s second-largest reservoir by touring the Lake Oroville Visitor Center.

There are free movies to watch, exhibits on the California State Water Project, a 46-foot viewing tower with free telescopes, and information on gold mining and Native American history.

ACTIVITY: MORNING NATURE WALKS

Don’t miss the next Visitor Center’s amazing Saturday Morning Nature Walk. Make sure to be at the Visitor Center by 8:45am.  The walk will start at 9am.

HERE’S THE FEBRUARY 2019 SCHEDULE:

FEB. 2

FEB. 23

Lime Saddle. This will be an easy walk between 3 and 4 miles. We will drive over to the trailhead on Pentz Rd, where the elevated flume goes overhead.

Saddle Dam. We will walk across the dam, a good viewing site for waterfowl. Then we wind our way up past one of California’s finest horse camping areas.

Hike Leader Holiday. No hike scheduled for this weekend.

After Bay. History may be covered up here, but this area makes an excellent place to view a wide variety of birds from eagles to grebes to ibises to geese. Bring binoculars!

Hikes average around 4 miles and are for all skill levels. The group leaves at 9 AM sharp and returns by around noon. Bring water, a snack, and dress for the weather.
